Student accommodation in Edinburgh is big business these days, with developers keen to cash in on the often-affluent student population looking for comfortable accommodation in a convenient location.
With over 35,000 students studying at the University of Edinburgh alone, there’s a huge market to target.
Development website www.skyscrapercity.com currently lists 11 new student residences which, if approved and built, would add over 2,500 student rooms to the cityscape.
Here’s where the latest student blocks will be built and what they will look like.
1. Baltic Street
This £40million in Leith's Baltic Street will see the restoration of the former Edinburgh and Leith Gasworks buildings to create 18 affordable homes, a 612 bed post-graduate student residence, a cafe, digital co-working space and four shops.

2. Westfield Road
Due to be completed by the middle of next year, the £20.4million development in Gorgie's Westfield Road will create a 394 bed student residence.
3. London Road
Currently under construction, when completed this project will add a 274 bed student residence to Meadowbank's London Road.
4. Dundee Street
Another project due to be completed next year, this one will create a 216 bed student residence on Dundee Street, in the Fountainbridge area.
