Bake-Off winner Candice Brown stars at Edinburgh food fest

LAST year, she won the hearts of the nation as the winner of the Great British Bake Off.

Now Candice Brown is coming to the Capital to cook up a storm as one of the headline names at the nationwide Foodies Festival at Inverleith Park this summer.

Candice will be joined by future Bake Off judge Prue Leith, who took over from Mary Berry following the baking competition’s move from BBC One to Channel Four at the end of last year.

The Bake Off champion will offer live demonstrations in the cakes and desserts theatre alongside some of the top bakers in the country and a host of emerging local talent.

And Candice revealed she was delighted to join the festival line up for the first time.

“I’m excited to return Foodies Festival for festivals across the UK this summer, with two baking demonstrations a day giving me the chance to share my favourite recipes with so many of my fans and fellow bakers,” she said.

The three-day event, taking place between August 4-6, is now in its twelfth year after starting in Edinburgh in 2005.

Festival-goers will be able to indulge their sweet tooth in the “Chocolate, Cake and Dessert Village”, with the opportunity to taste, decorate and learn from local experts and enjoy refreshments in the “Vintage Tea Room” as well as watch live cooking demonstrations by Michelin-starred chefs from around the world.

Joining the all-star line up will be 2016 MasterChef winner Jane Devonshire, who returns to the festival for a second year.

Jane revealed she was delighted to be making a second appearance at the nationwide festival.

“I’m really excited to return to the Chef’s Theatre at Foodies Festival this summer in Edinburgh,” she said.

“I love Foodies Festival and being a part of the show, having taken part last year shortly after winning MasterChef. When I’m not in the Chef’s Theatre you’ll find me exploring the exhibitor stalls to see what delicious treats are on offer, getting lured in by the Street Food Village or chatting to visitors.

“I love the opportunity to cook for my fans and to pass on my cooking tips to fellow foodies.”

In addition to live cooking demonstrations, festival-goers will be able to participate in cooking classes and tasting experiences with street food from around the world.

The sessions will showcase cuisine from Japan, Malaysia, Argentina and Morocco, as well as a unique food experience with chef Dan Barber who will be running a bug-eating cookery class.

Tickets for the event are now available online.

They are priced at £10.00 for a single day ticket or £20.00 for the full three-day event.

Organisers said that “VIP access” with champagne tasting sessions and live performances from the acoustic music stage would be available from £35.00 for a single day.
