IT HAS long been a Leith favourite, as the name suggests, but now owner Tony Crolla has decided that it's time to give La Favorita a new focus.

He explains, "La Favorita have removed all the Italian dishes you can find in most Scottish-Italian restaurants, Spaghetti Bolognese and Spaghetti Carbonara etc, and replaced them with pasta dishes that balance authentic Italian flavours with modern and distinctive ingredients. With this in mind, the team looked at classic rustic Italian dishes and added their creative flair to appeal to the trends of a growing vegetarian, vegan and health conscious consumer. Dishes have been kept simply but the team have ensured a fruitful of flavours stands out with every hand-crafted, affordable yet Italian pasta dish.

"The award winning pizza menu has also been simplified and allows customers to 'build their own' with a varied choice of toppings as well as the introduction of a new multi grain and seed pizza base that is both healthy and tasty."

To compliment the new menus, the interior of the eatery on Leith Walk has also under gone a six-figure redesign to give it a lighter and more welcoming feel.

"The use of fresh vibrant exciting colours have greatly enhanced its overall freshness and openness," says Crolla, adding, "There has been a dramatic change to the exterior with lovely heritage facia in teal with an abundance of new greenery and feature lighting.

"On entering, a new marble bar with rustic tiles welcomes and the whole front area has a bright and airy feel which works well with the warmth of the two wood burning pizza ovens. There's new greenery and lighting designed around the existing seven-metre mural featuring images and memories of the great Italian heritage that is so important to everyone in the Crolla family."

La Favorita opened in 2005 and quickly became famous for authentic, freshly made pizza cooked in log-fired ovens which give a special crispness and an unmistakable smoky flavour.

Crolla adds, "Over the past 50 years, our family business has served up delicious Italian eats across our Edinburgh restaurants. La Favorita was the first pizzeria of its kind in Scotland to offer log-fired cooked pizza and, in keeping with current and future trends, we believe our new menu and new look will showcase the best of authentic Italian food and culture.

"Whether you want to grab a quick bite in a relaxed setting, have a proper sit-down meal with friends and family, or grab a drink at the bar, we have created a beautiful space for everyone to enjoy the Italian food our family truly love.”
