Juniperlea Inn, Midlothian

One of the top recommendations by readers, this countryside eatery bills itself as a British restaurant.

Woodland Creatures, Leith Walk

A gastrobub offering cask ales and vegan-friendly roasts as well as the traditional meats.

Sandy Crombie said: "Would have to recommend Woodland Creatures, we have had Sunday roast on two occasions there and it was absolutely great. Great staff, quirky ambience. Can’t fault anything."

Mark Sharp said; "Had the best Sunday roast at Woodland Creatures in Leith. The beef was so tender that it melted in the mouth - no prolonged chewing like in some places and the portion was massive. A nice selection of roasted vegetables complimented the meat perfectly."

Kirsty Palmer said: "If good value with a cheeky Bloody Mary offer is your thing then Woodland Creatures on Leith Walk is a decent shout. The short rib of beef is delicious and it’s a nice chilled atmosphere on a Sunday. Also dogs welcome."

Otro, West End

A stylish restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh's West End, Otro offers elegant dishes in a welcoming setting. Sunday lunch here is £19.95 for two courses or £24.95 for three courses.

Reader Fiona Pollock, who sent in a picture of her roast, said: "Otro is my absolute front runner. I mean look at that! Beautiful tender meat, crispy Yorkshire pudding, fresh and perfectly cooked veggies, roasters and a delish gravy!"

Located near the Meadows in Edinburgh's South side, their menu is focused on locally sourced cuisine.

This famous Edinburgh pub does a cracking Sunday lunch and just pipped several other Edinburgh restaurants to the top five.
