Since the the pandemic of 2020, more of us than ever have welcome a new four-legged friend into our homes, with the Kennel Club reporting nearly an eight per cent rise in dog ownership.
But with 221 different breeds of pedigree dog to choose from, thereās plenty of thinking to do before you select your perfect pup.
Those with active lifestyles might want to consider a larger dog, while somebody with allergies will be looking for a hypoallergenic dog.

1. A talented hunter
As its name would suggest, the Afghan hound was originally bred in Afghanistan where it was used as a hunter in the country's rolling hills - pursuing everything from gazelles to leopards.
