Edinburgh seafood restaurant Ondine reopens with brand new look - and a new name

An award-winning Edinburgh seafood restaurant in the Old Town has announced that it is reopening its doors following an extensive refurbishment.

Ondine has completely transformed the entire look and feel of the restaurant, taking guests on a unique dining experience.

Following a modernised refurbishment to the restaurant, oyster bar and private dining area, Ondine who are renowned for their fresh Scottish seafood will have more of a focus on meat with their brand new robata grill – cooking over hot charcoal on an open fireplace which intensifies the flavour and adds a different texture to the meat and fish. As more meat is slowly introduced to the menu, the name of the restaurant has also been adapted to ‘Ondine Oyster & Grill’.

While the exterior is currently fully covered in scaffolding, something which is outwith their control and which will be in place until at least early next year, it has forced the award-winning restaurant to change their entire appearance.

The new restaurant will take diners to a proper destination as the opulent space has been converted to emulate a ship at sea featuring a very clever window display.

As they re-open, they have launched a brand-new seasonal food menu and wine list as well as a bespoke oyster and cocktail menu for their bar area.

The menu which will evolve features some old favourites and an array of grill dishes using their new robata grill such as Perthshire rib of beef, Isle of Mull scallops and native lobster.

Chef and owner, Roy Brett said: “We maybe can’t control what is happening outside the restaurant but what we can control is what is happening inside, and we have created a unique dining experience with honest seasonal integrity at the fore.

“We have completely changed the entire look and feel of the place and we are really looking forward to sharing the experience with you all as we re-open and welcome you back to Ondine Oyster & Grill.”
