The distillery nestled on the coast of Fife’s East Neuk in Kingsbarns has released the first in its upcoming range of whiskies paying tribute to Fife’s landmarks and historic sites to celebrate the Kingdom’s culture and heritage.

Established in 2009 by Douglas Clement, the Kingsbarns Distillery was taken over by the Wemyss family in 2013 and has been open to the public since 2014. Earlier this year, its Dream to Dram whisky won ‘Best Scotch Lowlands Single Malt’ at World Whiskies Awards 2020.

The Balcomie whisky, named after the nearby Balcomie Castle, has been matured in 100% ex-Oloroso American Oak Sherry Butts from Jerez, and presents a balanced blend with fruity, citrus and spicy notes and flavours of dried apricot, orange peel and cake spice coming to the fore. Scents of sultanas, dark chocolate and summer berries lend the whisky a rich and refined finish.

The founder and managing director of Kingsbarns Distillery, William Wemyss, said: “Place and heritage is hugely important to us as a company and we’re proud of where we come from, therefore, we’re naming each of our future core range releases after different landmarks in Fife – starting with Balcomie. Our distillery is surrounded by a magnificent landscape with a wealth of history and we wanted to capture the essence of this with Balcomie – a product we’re really excited to share.

Wemyss added: “The new addition to our range allows whisky lovers to enjoy fruity and indulgent flavours from an original bottle designed to honour our Scottish heritage. The Balcomie is perfect for cold, autumnal evenings and is guaranteed to take whisky fans on a stunning flavour journey – we hope customers love it as much as we do.”

Balcomie whisky, released on 9th November, will be available to ship from 23rd November and retails at £49.99.
