Artisan Real Estate’s application intends to build the modern apartments, which are a mix of one, two and three bedrooms, at the former Gylemuir Care Home which closed in 2019.

The apartment block, called Rowanbank Gardens, has been designed around a large internal garden which will provide community and planting space as well as a woodland area and grassy lawn.

All ground floor apartments will have private garden or balcony space and many of the upper apartments have balconies overlooking the gardens.

Artisan’s Regional Development Manager Charlotte Swanson said there has been strong interest in the proposals from Corstorphine residents who want to downsize and stay in the area and from families looking for more space.

She said: “This is a significant application providing much-needed new homes in a popular and accessible part of the city.”

Ms Swanson added that the properties have been built to promote an environmentally-friendly lifestyle with secure bike storage and good access to public transport available.

She said: “The buildings have been designed to minimise carbon footprint and maximise daylight.

“The site fits in well with our approach of regenerating brownfield sites with good public transport links, promoting car-free city living through generous secure cycle parking and providing residents with City Car Club membership.”

The business has other current projects in Edinburgh and is behind the current development, New Waverley, which is being built in the Old Town.

Representatives say that the company will apply the same design principles to the Corstorphine builds.

Other city projects include Canonmills Garden, comprising 180 apartments and colony properties overlooking the Water of Leith in Canonmills, to the north of the city centre.

The company is planning a community event prior to the determination of the Rowanbank Gardens planning application, to show how final proposals have addressed initial public feedback.
