With a well-earned citywide reputation for serving up platters of the best Chinese tapas in the Capital, its owners have announced on social media that the restaurant would cease to operate from yesterday.

The notice read: “Thank you to all of our loyal customers for coming all those years while we were working here. We would like to let you all know that Stack Dim Sum Bar will be closing our doors on May 8.

“It was a pleasure serving you.”

Stack opened in 2012 and, with an entire menu devoted to dumplings, wonton, buns and cheung fun, it was a
destination restaurant for those looking for a belly-full of pot stickers, at reasonable prices.

Customers not quite ready to let Stack go responded in anguish at the loss of the reliable eatery.

Adam Marshall said on Facebook: “I am really sorry to hear this – my wife and I and our friends and family have had many many delicious dim sum in your shop – easily the best in Edinburgh.

“Thanks for the food – especially the braised pork and preserved veg pot rice which I will miss especially.”

And Garry Kennie said: “Many thanks for the excellent dim sum lovingly prepared and serviced, by far the best in Edinburgh (maybe even Scotland).

“So sorry to hear you are closing, the food was truly excellent. Good luck in all your future endeavours.”

Some diners lamented the closure, sad not to have visited for a final char siu bun.

Alexandra Davies added: “Oh this is sad news, by far the best dim sum in Scotland.

“Gutted we won’t make a last trip.”

Joanne Dirkie added: “Really sad to hear this – you definitely served the best dim sum in Edinburgh by far.”

Andrew Morrison said: “You are the best Dim Sum outside of the Pacific Rim! I will miss you immensely.”

Disappointed customer Tony Johnson, who travelled from Earlston in the Borders just to enjoy the authentic bitesize morsels at least twice a month, said it was his family’s dim sum “home”.

“Forget the rest, the real tragedy in Edinburgh this week is the closing of Stacks Dim Sum.

“My son is at university and we often go up on the weekend and take him out for lunch.

“His response on hearing this was ‘so what’s our go-to place now Dad?’

“The only other serious dim sum is Imperial Palace but Stack is just better flavour and also more intimate.

He added: “Where will Edinburgh get the best dim sum north of London now?

“As a regular with all my family for years I am shocked. We came up from the Borders just for Stack.”

Sally Millar said: “Very, very sorry to hear this news. Your restaurant is the best! Thank you for all your work and the excellent and delicious meals we have had at Stack. Please let us know if you are opening up elsewhere in Edinburgh?”

Hopes that the owners may open elsewhere have been left unanswered with no-one available for comment.
