With this in mind we thought we’d look at which of Edinburgh’s attractions are ranked highest on the popular travel website Tripadvisor – the results are often surprising.

1. Arthur's Seat

2. The Royal Yacht Britannia
One of Scotland's most popular tourist attractions, docked in Edinburgh's Ocean Terminal, the Royal Yacht Britiannia's five decks include a highly-rated tea room. Christine W wrote: "We all enjoyed the tour, including my 11-year-old. Excellent idea for the kids to be challenged to spot the corgis. Well worth the admission price." Photo: Canva
3. National Museum of Scotland
Edinburgh's National Museum of Scotland is a favourite for those looking for a fun day out with their children. Mat M wrote: "My favorite place is the entrance hall. 4. Edinburgh Old Town
Edinburgh's historic Old Town is a winner with over 11,500 reviewers who gave it the full five stars. Frankie wrote: "What’s not to like about the Old Town? It’s beautiful and full of wonderful buildings and walks. There are lots of nice attractions and it’s easy to walk around." Photo: Canva
