Airline Jet2 has cancelled all of its flights to Spain after government guidance around travel to the country changed.

The Foreign Office has warned people to avoid all non-essential travel to the Balearic and Canary Islands.

This adds popular holiday destinations including Tenerife, Majorca, Ibiza and Lanzarote to the list of no-go areas for Brits, which already included mainland Spain following an announcement from the government on Saturday.

Jet2 has now cancelled all flights to Spain from the UK and has warned customers with holidays booked not to go to the airport.

The airline flies from Edinburgh and Glasgow airports, with multiple flights a day scheduled for these destinations.

Flights will be suspended initially until August 16, with the airline saying it will give customers due to travel after that date an update later on.

The airline has also cancelled flights to Faro in Portugal during this time.

Jet2 will continue to operate flights for customers returning to the UK up to August 4, and has said it will contact those booked onto flights returning after that to discuss their options.

Travel firm TUI has also cancelled all holidays to the Balearic and Canary islands.

It comes after travel advice was amended at the weekend to bring in a two-week quarantine for people returning from Spain to the UK.

Those travelling from anywhere in the country were asked to self-isolate for 14 days on their return.
