A TEN-year-old boy was left needing fifty stitches after he was bitten in the leg and dragged along a road in a vicious attack by a dog.
The youngster, named locally as Connor Sneddon, also needed reconstructive surgery after he was attacked by the bull mastiff, reports claim.
The animal, called Kaiser, has since been destroyed at the request of his owner.
The boy’s injuries could have been much worse if witnesses had not freed him from the grip of the 18-month-old dog.
The attack happened on September 17 in Prestonpans.
Kaiser was on a leash and being walked by his owner when he suddenly bit the child’s left leg and dragged him along the ground.
The owner of the dog, who has been to see Connor since the attack, said she had no idea why the attack happened. “I loved him to bits. I was so shocked by what happened but after I saw him do something so horrific there was no danger I was going to risk taking him home.”
A police spokesman said no-one had been charged in connection with the incident. He added: “A ten-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being bitten in the leg. The dog was taken away for destruction.”
