90-bedroom care home in Cramond to get go-ahead

Controversial plans for a 90-bedroom care home in Cramond look set to get the go-ahead.

TH1 Healthcare wants to demolish three existing houses and garages on Cramond Place in order to replace them with a new-build nursing home.

The proposed new care home is in a “T-shaped” plan that includes three residential wings and a central administrative hub.

Residents, heritage group the Cockburn Association and local group the Cramond Association lodged a total of 12 objections against the plans, for the site immediately opposite former Cramond Campus of Edinburgh University and within the grounds of the historic Cramond House.

Harvey Cooke, planning adviser at the Cramond Association, said: “Much of the opposition to the present application would be minimised if the development were to be restricted to two storeys – ie a 60-bed facility – and the entrance to the site to be from Cramond Road North.”

Planning officials have recommended the plans are approved, but councillors will make a final decision on Wednesday.
