Actors make animal vow

TWO acclaimed British actors are to “pledge their birthdays” to a city-based animal charity.

Alison Steadman and Steven Berkoff have given their backing to a campaign by OneKind, which is celebrating its centenary year, to inspire children to help vulnerable animals.

Mr Berkoff, whose birthday is tomorrow, said: “I dedicate my birthday to humankind that they may be inspired, educated and moved to refrain from any methods which inflict pain and cruelty on innocent animals.”

Ms Steadman, whose birthday is on August 26, added: “By helping young people to respect and care about animals, we are planting seeds that will take root later in life. By encouraging even small changes in people’s attitudes, we can make a big difference to the welfare of animals now and in the future.”
