Addict pleads for jail term

A WOMAN has pleaded with a sheriff to be jailed after being caught smuggling drugs into Saughton prison.

Drug addict Sandra Dennie told Edinburgh Sheriff Court that a spell behind bars was the only way she could get her life back on track. She was found trying to take diazepam tablets and cannabis into HMP Edinburgh earlier this month.

The 22-year-old from Renfrewshire’s solicitor, Philip McWilliams, said: “I am under instructions from her to ask you to send her to prison.”

Sheriff John Horsburgh QC obliged and sentenced her to 11 weeks in prison.
