Alex Ingle, who lives in Edinburgh, is in the running for a Sony World Photography prize after submitting an image entitled Wake Up Call, which shows the moment a young boy is about to jump on his sleeping grandfather’s legs.

The photo was selected from more than 230,000 images – the highest number of entries in the awards’ nine-year history.

Mr Ingle said: “When you expect an ‘unfortunately’ and receive a ‘congratulations’ for the very first time, it’s an unbelievable feeling.”
