BOMB disposal experts were alerted after a stash of ammunition was discovered in a parked car.
Police were investigating reports that a man had fallen ill at a house in Musselburgh, when the discovery was made at 9.40am today.
The area was secured until soldiers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Regiment of the Royal Logistics Corps arrived at the scene in Stoneybank Grove.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “While in attendance, officers observed a small quantity of ammunition within a car parked outside the house.
“The EOD also attended to ensure the contents of the vehicle did not present any risk to the public.
“The man is currently being treated at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and inquiries into the items found within the car are ongoing.”
Officers have ruled out any link between the ammunition and the man’s illness.
