Anti-greed protesters camp out in city over debt crisis

Protesters in Edinburgh joined an anti-greed movement which is growing around the world.

More than 100 demonstrators with Occupy Edinburgh turned out to protest in St Andrew Square on Saturday, with around a dozen still camped there last night. Police said things remained peaceful.

The protest is said to have been organised “in solidarity” with Occupy Wall Street, which began last month in New York and remains ongoing.

The Occupy Edinburgh website states: “Our Government has ensured that the people who caused the current situation continue to profit as they ensure the people of this country pay the price of a debt we did not create.

“It is time to stand together and oppose the corruption, greed and fraud which has led us to this dreadful point in our nations’ and world’s history. And to hold those responsible to account for their own actions.”
