Apology from ScotRail for overcrowding

SCOTRAIL has apologised for overcrowding on its flagship Edinburgh-Glasgow service and is to spend £200,000 renting an extra train to ease congestion.

The company is blaming mechanical failures and two crashes elsewhere on the rail network for a shortage of train carriages over the past three weeks.

Commuters on the ScotRail Edinburgh-Glasgow service have struggled to find a seat on the route during morning and evening rush hours.

The operator said it was now planning to spend more than £200,000 hiring an additional train to ease the problems, which have seen thousands of passengers struggle to get a seat on Scotland’s busiest rail route during the morning and evening rush hours. Trains are normally doubled in length to cope with a surge in passengers during peak periods.
