A SHOP worker was held at knifepoint by a man and woman wearing balaclavas during a robbery.
The pair targeted the Edinburgh Scarf Co, in the High Street, on Saturday evening.
The threatened a member of staff before making off on foot with a small quantity of cash and other items.
Police said they were last seen entering Blackfriars Street in the direction of the Cowgate.
No-one was injured during the incident at 6.40pm, however police are asking members of the public to come forward with information in a bid to trace the perpetrators.
The man had a slim build and was wearing a dark balaclava, a black hooded jacket, black tracksuit bottoms with a light-coloured patch near to his pockets, black trainers, black gloves and carrying a black holdhall.
His female accomplice wore a bright red balaclava and had a medium/chubby build. She wore dark tracksuit bottoms with a blue strip down its side and black trainers with white stripes and a white motif on the heel.
Detective Constable Leigh Inglis said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the member of staff to go through and we’re asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has information which can help to come forward.”
