Art auction to sow the seeds of recovery

World-famous artist Jack Vettriano is helping to bring back a community garden from the ashes.

He is among a number of artists who have donated works to a charity auction, which aims to raise funds for the repair of the Loanhead Community Garden in Midlothian.

The garden, which took five years and the hard work of many volunteers to build, was recently destroyed by vandals who set fire to tyres used as planters and as seating for children.

The auction has been organised by Midlothian Council’s Regeneration Team.

Vettriano, 59, donated a signed and framed mini-print of The Sparrow and the Hawk and a signed copy of his book.

Local artists including Alison Kinnaird MBE, Jenni Hamilton and Reside Project Artist in Residence Susan T Grant have also donated works.

The artwork will be on display at the Kabin, Mayburn Walk, Loanhead from 6.30pm this Friday until 5pm on November 4.
