Assault man to get special counselling

A man with “poor attitudes towards women” has been ordered to take lessons on how to treat women properly.

Shazad Latif must attend counselling sessions at a specialist centre run by domestic violence experts for two years.

Latif was handed the unusual sentence as part of a community payback order to end his habit of beating up his partner.

Latif, 25, from Armadale, West Lothian, was appearing for sentence yesterday on a domestic violence charge.

He pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex partner Elaine Findlay by biting her and repeatedly punching her to her injury.

The attack happened at Ms Findlay’s home in Addiewell on May 11 this year. Because of Latif’s history of attacks, she was able to hit a panic button to summon police, Livingston Sheriff Court was told.
