POLICE in East Lothian are appealing for witnesses following an attempted fireraising at a salon in Musselburgh.

The incident happened around 1am on Christmas Eve at Eivissa on the High Street.

A plastic bottle was set alight and thrown against the shop window, causing minor smoke damage to the doorframe.

The object quickly extinguished and no fire ignited.

Two men described as white, early to mid-20s and wearing dark clothing were seen running from the area shortly after and enquiries are ongoing to trace these individuals.

Inspector Andy Harborow said: “Fortunately, this incident didn’t result in a fire starting at the premises, but nevertheless we are treating this incident very seriously.

“Anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity on the High Street in the early hours of Christmas Eve is asked to contact police immediately.

“In addition, anyone who can help us trace the men seen running from the area, or who has information relevant to our enquiries should also get in touch.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
