AN Australian tourist ended up in court after being found lying unconscious on the Royal Mile following a drinking session.

Michelle Carter, 38, admitted attempting to strike a paramedic who tried to help her in the early hours of Wednesday.

Fiscal Depute Alex Piper told Sheriff Norman McFadyen that an ambulance had been called when Carter was found lying in the High Street at 4.45am.

Defence solicitor Keith Leishman said Carter was “mortified” and was due to leave Edinburgh today.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court, she was admonished. Sheriff McFadyen told her: “I will deal with you leniently. You are a first offender and there are particular circumstances here. You are admonished.”
