THE importance of independent bookshops is to be highlighted in the Capital today.

Five major authors including Maggie O’Farrell and Vivian French, will be spending the day working in The Edinburgh Bookshop in Bruntsfield, to show their support for B-campaign, which aims to highlight the importance of shopping locally and sustainably.

Maggie O’Farrell is one of the UK’s leading writers of contemporary fiction and won the 2010 Costa novel award for The Hand That First Held Mine.

Vivian French writes books for children of all ages.

The authors will be kitted out in T-shirts bearing the slogan “Careful or you’ll end up in my next novel” and advising on which book to buy, as well as trying to master the ordering and till systems.
