Gavin Hastings, Andy Nicol and John Jeffrey served up homemade casseroles and invited votes on which was the best dish. Mr Nicol’s Claridge’s Chicken was the winner but the beef bourguignon and lamb curry, by Mr Hastings and Mr Jeffreys respectively, were also popular.

Saturday’s event at Morningside’s Church Hill Theatre was organised by quadruple amputee Olivia Giles to gather support for The Big Dinner.

The March 7 event is the latest appeal for her charity 500 Miles, which funds prosthetics for people in Malawi and Zambia.
