The Big Yin’s before Queen

MOST Scots words say the Queen contributes nothing to their sense of national pride, according to a new survey on national identity.

South of the Border, 80 per cent said the Queen made them proud to be English, but only 41 per cent of Scots said the Queen made them feel proud to be Scottish. More Scots, 58 per cent, took a sense of national pride from comedian Billy Connolly.

The survey also found 84 per cent of Scots said Robert Burns made them proud to be Scots, 86 per cent said the same of Edinburgh, and 84 per cent associated the Saltire with pride. Only 61 per cent of English respondents were proud of the flag of St George.
