Bikini Queen art fetches a princely sum

A PORTRAIT of a girl wearing a yellow bikini, made entirely from photographs of the Queen, has fetched more than £5000 at auction.

The striking collage was created by top Scots artist and sculptor David Mach.

It went under the hammer in Lyon & Turnbull’s Scottish Contemporary sale in Edinburgh yesterday, when it was bought by a private UK collector for £5460.

Another collage by the acclaimed artist, featuring Marilyn Monroe made out of army recruitment leaflets, sold for even more when an overseas bidder offered £8450.

A spokesman for Lyon & Turnbull said: “The pictures generated a huge amount of interest and there was a lot of competition for them. We had bidders in the room and four or five phone lines going, as well as internet bidders. Both pictures were sold to phone bidders.”
