Fire service crews were called to a bin lorry on fire in Edinburgh this morning after reports of an ‘explosion’.

Two fire engines were called to the lorry on Duke Street shortly after 9am.

Local Jim Francey said there was an ‘explosion’ in the lorry, which ‘shook the house’ where he lives nearby.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 9.04am on Wednesday, April 8 to reports of a refuse lorry on fire in Edinburgh.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the city's Duke Street, where firefighters extinguished the fire and made the area safe before leaving the scene.

"There were no casualties."

Edinburgh City Council has been contacted.
