Blues musician Stevey Hay dies aged 51

LOCAL blues musician Stevey Hay has died suddenly at the age of 51.

Hay, whose was the lead singer and guitarist with The Stevie Hay Blues Band alongside Neil Warden, Paul Manson and Dave Swanson, suffered a heart attack on Wednesday.

A message from his fellow band members posted on the groups Facebook page paid tribute, saying: “Another great Scottish blues man no longer around... gutted. Our thoughts are with his family.”

He leaves behind a wife and three children.

The band had been due to headline alongside Murray Waters son at the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival.

Roger Spence, Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival producer, said: “We were shocked and saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Stevey Hay. He was a much-loved regular performer at the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival.

“His unique brand of rocking, good-times blues will be a huge loss.”
