THE FAMILY of a woman found dead along with her son at their home in Bonnyrigg today paid an emotional tribute to them.
They spoke as 32-year-old Garry Lockhart appeared on petition at Edinburgh Sheriff Court charged with the murder of wife, Janet, 29, and two-year-old Michael.
In a statement issued via Police Scotland, Janet’s mother Maureen Hood, father John Hood and brother Dr John Paul Hood said: “We shared 29 wonderful years with our precious Janet, who was a loving daughter, sister and mother.
“She always put others before herself. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being you. We do not know how we will cope without you.
“To our Grandson Michael, you lit up our lives. Sleep tight our angel and look after each other until we all meet again.
“As a family we would like to thank all of our friends who have given us support and Police Scotland giving a special mention to our Family Liaison officers who have been a great strength to us at this time.
“We also wish to thank our family doctor, Dr Rother for the time she has spent with us.”
The statement went on to ask for “family privacy” and time to “grieve for Janet and Michael”.
Earlier today Lockhart made a brief appearance in private before Sheriff Paul Arthurson QC.
No plea or declaration was made on his behalf and the case was continued for further inquiry. Lockhart was remanded in custody.
His appearance in court follows the discovery of the bodies of his wife and child in their home at South Chesters Lane, Bonnyrigg, on December 28.
