A MAN left an 11-year-old boy needing surgery for a broken jaw after good-natured banter turned ugly on the day of the Scottish Cup final.

Robbie White, 24, grabbed the youngster and spun him around before kicking him twice on the face.

The attack came after White and his girlfriend saw the children in Broomhouse Walk on May 26 – the day Hibs played Celtic at Hampden.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard the children began singing songs “that related, in particular, to Glaswegians”.

White and his partner walked off, the court heard, but were followed by the singing youngsters, who then began throwing stones, prompting the violent reaction.

The 11-year-old later underwent surgery at St John’s Hospital in Livingston.

White, a prisoner in Saughton, was today jailed for 18 months by Sheriff Isabella McColl after pleading guilty to assaulting the boy.
