Bridge chief apologises over delays

The Forth Road Bridge’s chief engineer Barry Colford has issued a public apology after last weekend’s traffic chaos.

Motorists faced delays of at least 90 minutes in both directions on Saturday and nearly a three-hour journey time from Edinburgh to Fife on Sunday.

Mr Colford said: “I would like to offer a sincere apology to all users of the bridge who suffered inconvenience and disruption as a result of the road works last weekend. The delays were exceptionally long and I am aware of just how badly some people were affected.

“There is no doubt that we need to review our procedures and do more in advance to persuade users of the bridge to consider postponing their journey if it is not essential.

“On a more positive note, the good news is that, despite the poor weather last weekend, all the work was completed which negates the need for further closures this year.”
