Scott Robertson repeatedly punched his step-brother, William McSeveney, during the battle and left him lying concussed outside Chalmers nightclub in Bathgate, with blood pouring from a head wound.

Lyndsey Armstrong, prosecuting, said Mr McSeveney needed stitches in a cut to the back of his right ear.

Robertson, 21, appeared for sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday after earlier admitting the assault on December 15 last year.

Kevin Dugan, defending, blamed the whole incident on Robertson’s step-brother causing trouble in the club and getting them both thrown out.

He said: “There was an argument, they became angry with each other and this incident happened.”

Mr Dugan said his client had since stopped drinking in a bid to stay out of trouble.

Robertson was put under social work supervision for a year and ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work under a Community Payback Order.
