Bubbles befuddle penguins

Bubble trouble has come to Edinburgh Zoo.

Experts treated more than 200 penguins to yet another fun-filled activity – bubbles from a machine.

Bird Section team leader Colin Oulton, who explained the birds need to be kept stimulated, said: “The bubble machine always gets a good response. All three of our penguin species will chase the bubbles and try to catch them in their beaks.”

Staff have other tricks up their sleeves when it comes to entertaining the cheeky birds – including scattering patterns of light across the enclosure by hanging up CDs.

The colony includes three varieties – Kings, Rockhoppers and Gentoos.
