Burns loses top vote reform role

The leader of the main opposition group in the City Chambers has lost his position as chairman of a group that campaigns for electoral reform.

Councillor Andrew Burns, leader of Labour group at the council, lost his bid to be re-elected as chair of the Electoral Reform Society by one vote.

Cllr Burns, who controversially followed his party line during a debate in the City Chambers earlier this year and voted for the council not to back the campaign to reform the Westminster system, will continue to be involved with the ERS council but not in a senior role.
