Capital curate to take charge of cathedral

A CURATE from Edinburgh has been appointed to take charge of the Episcopal cathedral in Oban.

The Rev Nicola McNelly, has been chaplain at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in Palmertson Place since 2009. She is to be the new provost of St John the Divine Cathedral, Oban, taking over from the Very Rev Norman MacCallum, who has held the post since 2000.

She will be installed at a special service in August. The role of provost is to be priest in charge of a cathedral, responsible for all areas of its life and its role in the community.

Ms McNelly, 50, who is married with two daughters, said: “I am thrilled and honoured to be appointed. There will be exciting challenges ahead.

“I think my curacy at St Mary’s Cathedral will have prepared me well for the future.”
