Capital to host teacher conference

around 200 teachers from across Scotland are to gather in the Capital next month for a conference on keeping pupils at secondary schools.

The Scholar conference, on June 8, is organised by Heriot-Watt University and the Scholar programme, a web-based system which allows Higher and Advanced Higher pupils to access teaching material remotely.

Professor Phillip John, dean of science and engineering and executive chair of the Scholar Forum, said: “All educationalists across Scotland have the aim of raising attainment of young people and thus providing optimum life chances whether in work or for further study.

“We believe we are well placed to help with this aim as Scholar is an interactive, multimedia programme which works in tandem with traditional classroom teaching and allows pupils to work online, at home, at their own pace.

“This is how pupils think and operate outside the school environment and it makes perfect sense to respond to changing behaviour patterns and make sure that pupils feel engaged with learning whenever and wherever they choose.”
