A CAR and a bus were involved in a city-centre crash this afternoon as crowds dispersed from the Festival Carnival in Princes Street Gardens.

Emergency services were called to the scene after a white VW Golf and a bus had collided at the junction of Princes Street and Waverley Bridge.

Danny Fuller, from Bathgate, who was on his way home from the Carnival, said it looked as if the Golf had been turning from Princes Street onto Waverley Bridge. He said it appeared as if fire and rescue personnel were cutting someone free on the passenger side.

“The vehicle looks pretty untouched except for the nearside at the front,” he added.

Mr Fuller said the Golf was still on the carriageway, but there was no sign of the bus.

The road was closed between Princes Street and the ramp into Waverley Station while police dealt with the accident. Pedestrians were also diverted.

Police confirmed they were dealing with what they described as a minor accident and said there had been no serious injuries.
