Police are investigating a carjacking in Edinburgh after a man was threatened and robbed of his car in Dumbiedykes.

The attack happened around 7pm on Monday on Dumbiedykes Road.

Police say the 47-year-old victim was sitting in his Ford Mondeo outside Lochview Court when a man open the front door and threatened him before demanding he get out.

He then stole the car and drove off.

The man was uninjured and contacted police a short time later. His Mondeo was recovered in the early hours of Tuesday in the Drylaw area.

Detective Constable John McShane said: “Fortunately the victim was not injured during the incident, but was left very shaken at what was a frightening experience.

“We believe there may have been a number of people in the area at the time and anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.

“In addition, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect or who has information relevant to this investigation is asked to get in touch.”

The man is described as white, mid to late 20s, around 5ft 10ins tall with a medium to stocky build and short light-brown slightly curly hair. He was wearing a light blue hooded top, loose fitting cotton trousers and had a splint on his left index finger.
