Case closed as ‘stolen’ guitar turns up safe in London

A GUITAR presumed to be stolen from a city venue has turned up in London, having been taken by mistake.

Toby Mottershead, the frontman of Edinburgh blues group Black Diamond Express, was left devastated after his prize Fender Stratocaster went missing from the Spiegeltent as the Festival drew to a close. The Evening News revealed on Tuesday how he had left it backstage after performing for fans in an impromptu acoustic gig at a nearby underpass after the main show.

But it has emerged that the stage company charged with building the venue at George Square had taken the £1500 instrument to London by accident, assuming it was one of their band’s guitars.

It will now be couriered back up to Edinburgh and reunited with its owner.

Mr Mottershead said: “It’s a huge relief. It’s good to know it was just a mistake and I’ll get it back.”
