Celebrate our ‘worst poet’

FANS of William McGonagall will gather at his grave in Edinburgh’s Greyfriars Kirkyard tomorrow night to remember the “world’s worst poet”.

Actor and historian Colin Brown will toast McGonagall’s memory before leading a walking tour which will end with renditions of his work served up with tea and Dundee cake.

Colin Fox, spokesman for the People’s Festival, which is staging the event, said: “Although he is primarily associated with Dundee, McGonagall was born in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket and died here in 1902.”

The event starts at 6.30pm at the gates of Greyfriars.
