Chance to try out activities at ‘launch’

A NEW arts and fitness centre in the north of the city is to host a free open day this weekend.

The Calton Centre, in Leith — which runs classes in activities ranging from baby massage to historic swordsmanship — will offer taster sessions for people of all ages at the refurbished Kirk Memorial Evangelical Union Church.

The events programme includes breakdancing for primary school children, a Zumba Bollywood class and Afro Cuban salsa.

Director Barbara Brandt says: “When we first started in March 2011, we literally just opened the doors.

“We were bowled over by the positive response and since then have been extremely busy.

“The Open Day is like an ‘official launch’. Visitors can see examples of how things can work if they need somewhere to hold their own event or activity”.

The open day takes place on April 14. For more information, visit www.caltoncentre.co.uk
