Charity starts snare survey

ANIMAL welfare charity OneKind has launched a new web-based initiative to collect information on the use of animal snares in the UK.

SnareWatch will also gather information on welfare problems caused by the traps.

The site – www.snarewatch.org – offers people advice on what to do if they find an illegal snare.

It will provide the first detailed and ongoing record of the number of animal snares being used across the UK.

Policy director at Edinburgh-based OneKind, Libby Anderson, said: “OneKind believes that snares are outdated and cruel and should be banned in the UK.

“SnareWatch has been developed as a focal point to gauge whether current legislation is working to protect animals as it should.”
