check out the attractions

Edinburgh Doors Open Day 2011 is a chance to explore buildings across the city that are usually out of bounds to the public - free of charge.

The event is organised by the Cockburn Association and takes place this weekend with a sporting theme that will be reflected in many of the attractions flinging open their doors for the annual event, now in its 21st year.

Among the highlights is the chance to explore behind the scenes at Craigmillar Police Station, where Lothian and Borders Police will also put on horse and dog shows.

For Hearts fans, this weekend is an opportunity to take a tour of the Tynecastle stadium, as well as test their shooting power and beat the goalie on the community pitch.

n Opening hours vary at each building. For details, visit www.cockburnassociation.co.uk or call 0131-557 8686.
