Chemical incident closes roads at Newbridge

FIREFIGHTERS are dealing with a chemical incident in a warehouse in Newbridge.

Crews were called out DHL Depot in Newbridge, Edinburgh at 9.07am this morning following reports of an unknown vapour in the warehouse building.

Appliances from Sighthill and Crewe Toll are in attendance.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh are currently in attendance following a chemical incident in Chariot Drive.

“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is currently in control of the scene and road closures have been put in place at Cliftonhall Road and Huly Hill Road.

“Officers thank the public for their patience at this time.”

A spokeswoman from the fire service said the substance found was not believed to be harmful and is understood to be antifreeze from aircraft shipping containers.

Two people have been taken to the Royal Infirmary as a “precaution” following the incident.
