City ‘jewel in tourist crown’

EDINBURGH is a “hospitality hotspot” compared with the rest of the UK, with occupancy rates and revenue on the rise, figures showed today.

The city is “the jewel in the crown” of the Scottish hospitality industry, accountants PKF said.

Occupancy fell by one per cent in Aberdeen but rose by 2.2 per cent in Edinburgh and by 2.5 per cent in Glasgow.

Alastair Rae, a partner in the Real Estate and Hospitality sector at PKF, said: “Edinburgh remains the jewel in the hospitality crown, with occupancy and rooms yield only beaten by other tourist hotspots such as Bath, Cambridge and Oxford.

“It is clear that the volume of leisure visitors for the year has been very high and early indications are that this pattern continued for the rest of the summer.”
