Gospel musician El Mafrex, who first moved to the Capital from Nigeria to study IT, has spoken of his joy at being nominated for Best Gospel Act at the Mobo Awards for the second year running.

The 29-year-old, who has lived here for four years and is the only Scottish act nominated, is up against Guvna B, Lurine Cato, IDMC and Sandra Godley for the prestigious award.

He said: “The first I knew of it was on Tuesday night, when all of a sudden my phone started going crazy with messages from Twitter.

“I’m so thrilled to hear I’ll be going back to the awards this year and that they’re going to be held in Glasgow again.

“I got to meet Emeli Sande last time, which was amazing, and there’s lots of fantastic nominees this year like Jessie J, Rita Ora, Tinie Tempah, Jay Z and Kanye West.

“I just hope Scotland gets behind me and votes for me to win!”
