City pupils justify their contest win

PUPILS at a city school have won a nationwide competition run by the British Red Cross and international law firm Allen & Overy.

Tamzin Zawadzka, Chloe Woods, Caitlin Paul and Eileen Morrow from George Heriot’s School competed against six other schools in the final of the Justice and Fairness competition at Allen & Overy’s office in London earlier this month.

The competition asked young people to show off their knowledge and experience of humanitarian issues by submitting presentations based around the themes of justice and fairness.

Amid strong competition, the team chose to raise the issue of homophobia on a local, national and international scale.

The four pupils produced a DVD, created a blog and campaigned about the issue in their school and local community.
