THE Capital’s ancient walkways and closes succeeded in cutting actor Stephen Fry off from his four million Twitter followers.

Fry was in Edinburgh shooting a TV adaptation of Ian Rankin’s book Doors Open. He told his followers: “Sorry, I can’t tweet much. Very busy schedule on set here in Edinburgh, which seems to be the capital of mobile phone blackspots.”

The 54-year old QI host co-stars with Dougie Henshall in the new ITV drama. Filming is set to continue for five weeks.

His mobile phone signal seems to have improved later in the day though as he tweeted: “Still at it. Won’t wrap till 9.30, but greatly cheered to be told about a restaurant here in Edinburgh called Oh Aye, the Noodle.”
